I really enjoy Angela’s trainings! This one was packed with information to help me be a better educator (as usual). People sometimes think that when kids come from a hard situation that we should give them a break and cut them some slack academically.

It was reassuring to hear that we need to keep our standards high despite the outside factors. We need to “dream big” with and for our kids so they can continue to be amazing! I would definitely recommend this PD. Just be prepared, you will cry and you will laugh BUT you will leave a better educator and a better human.

Angela was and is a (school) leader that helped me get a better understanding of what exceptional leadership should look like, feel like and sound like. Angela was phenomenal and real! The staff loved how she brought real-life and authentic experiences and presentation materials. Angela set the tone with clear norms and expectations that allowed our whole district staff to lean into this professional development day. Throughout the day we got little nuggets of actionable steps to embed in the classrom.

This work has continued on beyond the day we had with Angela. Overall each staff member that attended was provided a clear understanding of Social-Emotional Learning, how it impacts the classroom, and why it's an important part of living out our district mission. Through our work with Dr. Brooks I have seen many changes in staff. The one change that stands out the greatest to me is that of a 30 year veteran teacher, a man who was had sort of over the years, lost his desire for the game. Through his time reflecting on Dr. Brooks messages and the personal relationship that he has been with a parent volunteer in his classroom, he is really beginning to see all that he never did or could before.

He has really taken into heart his need to know his students and for them to know him. Some of our most struggling students have grown to trust this man and as they do, he has learned to trust himself again as a teacher and as an adult in these kids’ lives who can have so much impact.

I had the pleasure of attending a Restorative Practices training with Dr. Angela Brooks. It was one of the best trainings I’ve attended in my 30 years of teaching!

I came away energized! I learned about how to create a proactive classroom environment that empowers students through mutual respect and dignity.
